Eco-friendly curtains and lamp.

This eco-friendly curtains is made with the bottom of plastic bottles, the resulting pattern is great. This is the work of UK designer Michele Brand.
When you look closely at the pattern, you see that she uses clothing tag attachers to link the flower pattern together, this way she gets a reliable distance between each flower.

Based on the same principle, Michele brand designs pendant light too:

I realized that it's possible to get an attachment tagging gun for around $20 from Amazon, It makes such project doable now! This is how it looks.

  2. awesome idea but personally I like the 5 cent refund I get at my bottle depot....they add up & then I can buy a privacy curtain from the dollar store for a buck plus 05 tax

    1. This project is about repurposing items not about buying a new one at the store. Also the care and creativity of the piece would look 100 times better than a plastic sheet from the dollar store: it's about art, not thrift.

    2. Even if the bottoms are cut off, you can still get your money back at the recycle place- they are weighed-

  3. I think these are very pretty. There might be some other bottles that aren't returnable that could be used. Plus, it's a one of a kind. Great eye catching conversation piece.

  4. How do you cut the bottoms off so smoothly?

  5. @K - wondering the same thing! How they come out the same height and the edges so smooth.

Also...is there any reason you can't send the remainder of the bottle to recycling?

  6. I think this looks great! I'm always left with the bottle bases after cutting them off to make mini-cloches for seedlings from the bottles themselves. Thank you for sharing the instructions. :)

  8. I cut my soda bottles with little scissors for nails, the blade of it is curves a little,m so it makes perfect flower. Tops of the bottle can be used as decoration for the string of lights from dollar store (smaller bottles will be better, but 2l bottles make perfect material for any garden craft) so nothing get wasted. If you looking for ideas, check the Pinterest, ppl make amazing stuff with recycled plastic bottles.

  9. Wondering what else I might be able to use to hook the bottoms together instead of gun tag? I'm using as a privacy area by our hot tub..been saving them since Xmas from everyone. I use my husband's small mustache scissors that are curved. .Shhhh Lol

  10. Lovely look!
I think the clothing tag attachers defy the meaning of upcycling, though - since you won't reuse old tag attachers but add new ones. This will only create extra plastic waste in the end. However, sewing them together will work! Maybe you guys have other great ideas to replace the clothing tag attachers :)
